Zerona vs. Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgically invasive procedure that introduces an intensely hot laser tip through and under the skin to melt and destroy fat cells. A hollow tube called a cannula is then used to suck out the melted fat with the assistance of a powerful vacuum. Fat is suctioned out through these tubes as the doctor moves the tubes around under the skin to target specific fat deposits.

A local anesthetic is used to numb the areas of your body where the tubes will be inserted. Then, a large amount of an anesthetic solution containing lidocaine and epinephrine is injected into the fatty tissue before traditional liposuction is done. Some patients are given general anesthesia for this procedure.

In the hands of a skilled surgeon, the procedure is considered safe but there are drawbacks and real risks.

Drawbacks include costs, downtime for the procedure and post-operative recovery time, and lumpiness or irregularities of the skin if too much or too little fat is removed. Another documented drawback is that like a bad dream, fat has a way of sneaking back into your body. A year after surgical liposuction, many people who had liposuction of their thighs wind up with more fat in their bellies. And if their tummy was suctioned, many people have been surprised to find chubbier arms and thighs a year later. However, if you maintain a healthy lifestyle and don’t gain weight, these unintended consequences are less likely to occur.

Risks include excessive bleeding, infection, skin burns, accidental injury to other organs, delayed healing, permanent scars, pulmonary fat embolism, and even death.

The Zerona® treatment is a 100 percent safe and non-invasive procedure that takes about an hour, using a low level laser applied externally to stimulate the fat cell in order to emulsify and release fat from the fat cell. There is no use of anesthesia, absolutely no pain, no gels, creams, numbing agents, needles and no downtime.

With Zerona, you enjoy a quiet, relaxing environment where you are invited to listen to music or even catch up on phone calls with friends and family. You will experience just 20 minutes on one side, followed by 20 minutes on the other while remaining comfortable and relaxed. Countless patients have described these sessions as completely relaxing and even Zen.

In contrast to procedures such as surgically invasive liposuction that destroy fat cells, Zerona simply creates a temporary opening in the fat cells so the fat can escape and be transported out of the body allowing the unharmed fat cells to continue to produce hormones that decrease appetite.

ZERONA

Zerona is an FDA cleared non-invasive body contouring device that safely and effectively removes excess fat without the negative side effects associated with surgical methods. Zerona utilizes the cold laser technology developed by Erchonia, which emulsifies your fat and allows it to move to interstitial space, where your lymphatic systems picks it up and removes it naturally from your body.

This technology was originally discovered during trials with surgically assisted liposuction procedures. Further studies and FDA prospective, double-blind trials at multiple sites proved that the low-level laser therapy alone was able to reduce inches from their waist, hips, and thighs as well as sculpt and contour the body for pleasing aesthetic purposes without the risks, pain, and downtime of invasive, surgical procedures.

Pros

  • Completely non-invasive
  • No surgery or anesthesia required
  • Totally painless
  • Results in 2 weeks
  • ZERO downtime, patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatments
  • Instead of removing or harming the body's fat cells, Zerona creates small holes in the fat cell so the fat can naturally be filtered through the body's lymphatic system naturally
  • Shrinks fat cells instead of removing them, making it impossible to become disfigured or scarred during the procedure
  • FDA cleared for its safety and effectiveness for removing fat

Cons

  • Zerona is not a miracle cure. You must maintain your fat loss through a healthy and active lifestyle. If you do not, your fat cells will re-plump.
  • Results vary from patient to patient; some may lose three inches while others may lose much more.

Liposuction

Liposuction is the surgical procedure of removing fat from beneath the skin using a cannula with the assistance of a powerful vacuum. Liposuction is usually accompanied by either with the use of general anesthesia, with heavy IV sedation or by local anesthesia.

Pros

  • You can lose inches rapidly with no diet or exercise.
  • Liposuction has been the quickest and most successful way for patients to remove stubborn belly fat.
  • Fat removal is permanent.

Cons

  • Liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure.
  • Requires anesthesia, which can add risk
  • Any type of surgery comes with potential serious risk including excessive bleeding, infection, burns, scarring, fat pulmonary embolism, and even death.
  • Lumpy skin irregularities if too much or too little fat is removed.
  • A patient's downtime is usually one to two weeks before they can resume normal activities
  • Since liposuction removes the fat cells, if a healthy/active lifestyle is not maintained, the fat has been proven to return to the body in unnatural areas (i.e. shoulders, neck, arms, and knees).
